TORONTO - The period of exclusivity for talks with CHINA MINMETALS regarding the acquisition of NORANDA expired on Nov. 16. Discussions continue between the two companies, however.
Without a declaration of exclusivity, Noranda executives are free to explore alternatives.
Separately, Brazil's COMPANHIA VALE DO RIO DOCE (CVRD) says it is not in discussions concerning acquisition of Noranda. There were rumours in June 2004, but CVRD denied them at the time. CVRD CEO Roger Agnelli says his company would be open to studying the matter if Brascan or Noranda approached it, however that has not happened.
