BUCYRUS has sold two 495HR electric rope shovels to CODELCO for one of its copper mines in Chile. The shovels have the latest technical advances available from the manufacturer including AccessDirect that facilitates remote machine diagnostics. A Bucyrus engineer accessing the system can diagnose and often fix problems without going into the field, a boon to operations in remote areas. (www.Bucyrus.com)

In a move that will broaden its customer base, CATERPILLAR is going to manufacture a line of AC electric drive haulage trucks. Cat has created an alliance with MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CORP. to develop the new electric drive. Mitsubishi is to supply the power semi-conductors for the motors. Pilot testing of the new trucks is expected to begin within 18 months. (www.Cat.com)

Montreal-based SEMAFO has purchased an entire mining fleet of KOMATSU equipment for its Kiniero gold mine in Guinea. The deal is worth $8 million for two PC800SE-7 excavators, ten HD465-7 haul trucks, two D275-3 dozers, one D375-3 dozer, one GD705A-4 grader, one WA600-3 wheel loader and a WA420-3 wheel loader. With the purchase of its own fleet, Semafo will become the operator of the mine. (www.Komatsu.com)
