TUNCELI, Turkey RIO TINTO MINING & EXPLORATION and partner ANATOLIA MINERALS DEVELOPMENT are continuing to search for the exploration potential of copper-gold porphyry systems in east-central Turkey.
Last year’s program included a series of regional aeromagnetic, stream sediment geochemical and alteration surveys. Two of the anomalies detected, appear to be related to porphyry-type Cu-Au mineralization. They occur in large zones of multi-stage alteration within a series of andesitic volcanics and volcanoclastics intruded by quartz dioritic to quartz monzonitic intrusive rocks. One Cu-Au zone about 3-km by 1-km has been outlined at Sin, where local villagers have recovered copper by dumping scrap iron into creeks and later retrieving copper precipitate. The second zone at Kizilviran covers 2-km by 1-km and contains Cu-Au-Mo mineralization.
Rio Tinto and Anatolia hope to be drilling both these zones later this year.
Anatolia’s web site at www.anatolia-minerals.com contains a wealth of information about minerals in Turkey and the company’s other property holdings there.
