Not only the exploration sector and certain Aboriginal bands are unhappy with Ontario's proposed new Mining Act. Everyone else is, too, to judge from the emails and calls that keep coming in.

Charles Ficner of the Coalition for Balanced Mining Act Reform called to make a good point that the proposed Act may be considered unconstitutional. The Act does not treat all Ontario landowners equally. There are proposals to establish different rules for those living in the far north, the near north and the south. The same goes for whether land planners are Aboriginal or not.

Ficner's Coalition (http://ato.SmartCapital.ca/MiningActReform) has posted three "modest" proposals for reform. They are worthy of consideration by landowners, prospectors, municipal leaders, land use planners, northern residents, and the rest of us.
