ONTARIO - This year's Ontario Mine Rescue competition held in Hamilton was won by the team from INCO LTD.'s West mine in Sudbury. Second place was captured by the CANADIAN SALT CO.'s Ojibway mine in Windsor.

Incos West mine also won the Firefighting Team award, while the Canadian Salt Companys Ojibway mine earned the First Aid Team award. In the special equipment category, FALCONBRIDGE's Fraser/TL mine gained the Special Equipment Team award and Incos Roger Bealieu captured the Equipment Technician Award for the second consecutive year.

The John T. Ryan Regional Safety Trophy was presented at the same Mine Rescue meeting to the Williams mine near Hemlo. The mine is owned equally by TECK COMINCO and BARRICK GOLD. General manager Vern Baker and safety co-ordinator Cam Duquette lead the team that built the most consistent safety record in the region.
