TORONTO - The directors of the KEGS FOUNDATION have awarded scholarships totalling nearly $12,000 to 10 undergraduate and six graduate students in geophysics at seven Canadian universities for the forthcoming academic year, plus book awards to a further four students.

The undergraduate recipients for 2007-08 are HAYLEY EDWARDS and ALEX MAZURKIEWICZ (Queens University), ALEXANDRA KUSHNIR (University of British Columbia), GREG NASH and TIFFANY PIERCEY (Memorial University), KEJI OLALEYE and TROY UNRAU (University of Manitoba), JON RIGG (University of Waterloo), JANE SIMMONS (University of New Brunswick) and BILL SPICER (McMaster University).

The six graduate recipients are ARSLAN AKHMETOV and XUEYANG YU (University of Western Ontario), JUNWEI HUANG and FLORA SUN (University of Toronto), MADELINE LEE (McMaster University) and JULIE SMITH (Memorial University).

The amount of each scholarship awarded ranges from $500 to $1,000, depending on indicated merit and need.

In particular, the Limion scholarship was awarded to Jane Simmons. The KEGS Pioneers Scholarship was awarded to Flora Sun. Finally, the BCGS scholarship established in 2006 via a major donation by the B.C. Geophysical Society was awarded to Alexandra Kushnir. The KEGS Ontario scholarship went to BRETT HAMILTON (University of Waterloo). The KEGS Hallof scholarship was renewed for ANDREI SINDINSKY (University of Toronto). The Shirley and and Stan Ward memorial scholarships were awarded to MICHAEL McMILLAN and ROBERT ESO (University of British Columbia).
