NORTHERN QUEBEC Owner AURIZON MINES has awarded the shaft raising contract at the West mine of the Casa Berardi project to ROSS-FINLAY of Val d'Or (see www.rossfinlay.com).

Aurizon says that its scoping studies have indicated that raising, rather than conventional shaft sinking, should shorten the shaft construction schedule and the pre-production period, which will have a positive impact on the economics of the project. Raising will be conducted simultaneously from the 550-m level up to the rehabilitated 280-m level and from the 280-m level to the surface. Work will start before the end of the second quarter 2004.

A sketch indicating the location of the proposed shaft is attached to the June 2 news release at www.aurizon.com.

Three surface exploration drill rigs are currently active on the Casa Berardi property, focusing on the two new mineralized areas recently identified in the East mine area. A fourth drill rig will soon focus on a deep target in the West mine area, 500 metres below known resources.
