NEW BRUNSWICK Vancouver-based BIOTEQ ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES has inked a six-year operating agreement with Breakwater subsidiary CANZINCO LTD. to run wastewater treatment plants at the Caribou and Restigouche sites and to retreat Caribou mine tailings.

BioteQ will use its BioSulphide process to treat Caribou tails at a rate of 50,000 tonnes a year beginning in 2005. The BioSulphide plant will recover as much as 300,000 lb of copper and 700,000 lb of zinc annually. BioteQ's fees will be covered in part by the sale of these metals. Detailed engineering is currently in progress for the plant.

BioteQ has built similar plants for Falconbridge at the Raglan mine in Quebec and for Phelps Dodge in Bisbee, Arizona. Technical details and a schematic drawing are available at www.bioteq.ca.
