NEW YORK - HUDBAY MINERALS of Winnipeg has shipped the first zinc concentrates from its restarted Balmat mine in the northern part of the state. Most of the concentrate is destined for the CEZ refinery near Montreal, and the remainder will be treated at the HudBay plant in Flin Flon, Manitoba.

The company announced the US$20-million reopening project in November 2005. The Balmat mine had been on care-and-maintenance since 2001 when low prices forced suspension of operations. Full production at 55,000 tonnes/year should be achieved in 2008.
