VANCOUVER — Ascendant Resources (TSX: ASND) has delivered fresh exploration drill results from its El Mochito zinc-lead-silver mine, 88 km southwest of San Pedro Sula, in northwest Honduras. The 32,000-metre underground drill program is designed to infill and test for extensions of the carbonate replacement style deposit, where mining has been ongoing since 1948. Three of the four drill targets – Palmar Dyke, Santa Elena and Victoria – are close to existing underground mine workings and could be brought into production within 12 months. The fourth target, Esperanza, is already being mined on its western edge. Chris Buncic, Ascendant’s president and CEO, tells The Northern Miner during a phone interview that the new assay results are “well above” current mining grades, which speaks to the mine’s untapped potential. Step-out drilling at Palmer Dyke intercepted 17.6 metres at 5.3% zinc, 3.8% lead and 83 grams silver per tonne, while at Victoria, drilling cut 17 metres of 5% zinc, 2% lead and 53 grams silver.
