NORTHWEST TERRITORIES – The NWT Metis Nation, De Beers Canada and Mountain Province Diamonds have signed an impact benefit agreement for the Gahcho Kue diamond mine 280 km northeast of Yellowknife. The project is a joint venture of Toronto's De Beers (51% and operator) and Mountain Province (49%), also headquartered in Toronto.

The agreement creates a framework for the parties to work together over the life of the mine to develop economic, environmental and cultural programs with Metis members.

Gahcho Kue is expected to employ almost 700 people during two years of construction and roughly 400 people during operations.
