WASHINGTON, DCKinross Gold Corp. has become the 20th company to sign the International Cyanide Management Code as a cyanide transporter. The company transports the toxic substance to its Kupol gold mine in northeast Russia. The mine and mill reached commercial production in May 2008. The project has an annual output of 485,000 and 520,000 oz of gold equivalent.

 

Kinross (www.Kinross.com) holds a 75% interest in the Kupol project and the Chukotka government holds the remaining 25%.

 

The International Cyanide Management (www.CyanideCode.org) is a voluntary industry program aimed at the responsible manufacture, transport and use of cyanide for the recovery of gold.
