SUDBURY, Ontario – On Feb. 11, 2012, Vale Canada made a $150,000 local donation to support kids’ sports for the next three years. The gift goes to the Human League’s Positive Leisure Activities for Youth (PLAY) program.

"No child should have to miss out on playing a sport due to financial constraints," said John Pollesel, Vale’s COO, Vale Canada and director of base metals for Vale’s North Atlantic Region. "Vale is pleased to support the Human League’s PLAY program and to provide the means for youth in our community to reach their potential through extracurricular activities."

The PLAY program provides funds for registration and equipment costs so that low income youth can participate in extra-curricular activities. The program is intended to boosts a child’s self image and self esteem by giving him or her the necessary tools to access recreation in the community.

Vale’s donation was announced at centre ice at the company’s annual Sudbury Saturday Night hockey game. Vale purchased all of the 2,000 tickets that were available for the Wolves vs. the Sarnia Sting game, and the company invited its employees and members of the community to enjoy the game.

The Human League (HumanLeague.on.ca) is a Sudbury-based charity funded in part by the United Way.
