CMJ’s Editor-in-Chief visits Seguela Gold Mine in Côte d’Ivoire

In late November, Tamer Elbokl, Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Mining Journal, visited the Seguela Gold Mine in northern Côte d’Ivoire as part of CMJ’s ongoing editorial coverage of significant mining operations around the world. The visit provided an opportunity to examine the mine’s operations first-hand and to assess its place within West Africa’s evolving gold sector.
While on site, Elbokl toured the operation and spoke with Fortuna’s CEO and President, Jorge Ganoza, and mine management about Seguela’s development, operational approach, and the factors contributing to Côte d’Ivoire’s growing profile as a mining jurisdiction. The project stands out for its geology, scale, and execution, and reflects broader trends shaping gold mining across the region.
This visit also forms part of a broader series of CMJ field reporting. Additional interviews, site visits, and video content from the region will be published in the coming weeks, offering further insights into mining projects, leadership perspectives, and the opportunities and challenges shaping the mining industry.
The accompanying video offers viewers an on-the-ground look at Seguela, highlighting key aspects of the operation and providing context on why Côte d’Ivoire continues to attract international mining investment.
