SASKATCHEWAN – Vancouver-based Foran Mining Corp. says the results of metallurgical tests are positive on samples from the Bigstone copper-zinc deposit in the Hanson Lake Camp, about 25 km southwest of the company’s McIlvenna Bay project and 85 km west of Flin Flon, MB. Three types of mineralization occur at Bigstone – Main zone (copper), Main zone (zinc) and massive sulphides (zinc) – and they were blended to create a composite sample of drill core for testing. All three types area amenable to conventional flotation. Here is a summary of the results:
  • Main (copper) – recoveries of 93% Cu, 52% Au and 82% Ag to a copper con grading 29.2% Cu, 1.9 g/t Au and 118 g/t Ag.
  • Main (zinc) – recovery of 90% Zn to a con grading 55.3% Zn and recoveries of 43% Cu, 48% Au and 39% Ag to a copper con grading 29.4$ Cu, 7.7 g/t Au and 238 g/t Ag.
  • Massive sulphides (zinc) – recoveries of 90% Zn and 73% Ag to a zinc con grading 54.14% Zn and 471 g/t Ag.
The Main zone has a copper-rich core that makes up the bulk of the deposit, consisting of coarse disseminated to semi-massive and locally veined pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and magnetite. Peripherally, the Main zone transitions into more zinc-rich mineralization hosted primarily by stringer style sphalerite, pyrite, and pyrrhotite. Base metal sulphide mineralization is hosted within an intensely altered and metamorphosed volcanic assemblage with footwall quartz+/-feldspar porphyry and hanging wall rhyolite tuffs and graphitic argillite. Foran’s latest corporate presentation, highlighting the McIlvenna Bay project, is available at ForanMining.com.
