VANCOUVER – Mining for Miracles, the British Columbia mining communities fund raising campaign for the BC Children's Hospital, raised more than $777,259 on May 15 at its signature event, the 2014 Teck Celebrity Pie Throw. Participants volunteer to take a pie in the face while asking friends, family and colleagues to pledge their support.

The pie throw also featured the 2014 Diamond Draw that raised additional money for the hospital. The winner took home a package worth over $15,000 donated by De Beers Canada, Teck Resources and Costen Catbalue. Included was a 1.01-ct round brilliant cut diamond valued at $10,940.

Funds raised by Mining for Miracles in 2013 and 2014 will support the BC Children's Hospital BioBank. Biobanking is a new research tool that holds the potential to improve treatments and find cures for diseases affecting millions of children around the world. It will be the first institutional pediatric biobank in Canada and will facilitate breakthrough medical discoveries that will improve the lives of children suffering from debilitating and life limiting diseases.
