ALASKA – Equal partners Barrick Gold of Toronto and NovaGold Resources of Vancouver say a milestone has been reached at their Donlin gold project 450 km northwest of Anchorage. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers has published the draft environmental impact statement, and it is available at DonlinGoldEIS.com. Now that the EIS is publicly available, a schedule for public meetings will be organized and written comments accepted until the end of April 2016. The document will then be reviewed and the final EIS drafted and published in 2017. As well as advancing the EIS, the Donlin partners continue work on other key permits. The public notice for the Clean Water Act Section 404 (Wetlands) permit application has been issued. The air quality and integrated waste management permit applications have been filed. Lease applications to the Alaska Department of Natural Resources have been submitted, and work continues on the dam application package. The Donlin project contains as much as 39 million oz of gold. Additional details are available at NovaGold.com.
