ECUADOR – Lundin Gold of Vancouver and the Lundin Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding to provide technical, vocational and entrepreneurial training in the Zamore Chinchipe province. This is where Lundin's Fruta del Norte gold project is located.
The Universidad Tecnica Particular de Loja, Fundacion para el Desarrollo Empresarial y Social, and Centro Minero Sur signed for the Ecuadorian community. And, as a witness of honour, Rafael Poveda, Ecuador's co-ordinating minister for strategic sectors.
Under the terms of the MOU, co-operation will include the above-mentioned training, local sourcing of supplies and services during construction and operation of the mine, and direct support of local businesses to promote regional economic diversification.
In December 2014, Lundin became the owner of the Fruta del Norte gold project when it purchased Aurelian Resources for US$240 million. The project is one of the largest and highest grade undeveloped gold projects in the world.
