NEWFOUNDLAND – Marathon Gold Corp. has drilled near surface gold intercepts in the first holes of the current campaign at its Valentine Lake project 55 km south of Buchans. Winter drilling is focused on expanding the open pit resource of the Victory deposit, outlining new high grade gold veins in the Sprite NE area, and testing new mineralization along strike to the northeast.

Significant assays from this year's holes include 3.59 g/t Au over 5.25 metres (true length) including 14.53 g/t Au over 0.75 metres in VGD-14-02 as well as 3.44 g/t Au over 6.75 metres including 19.16 g/t Au over 1.13 metres and 2.21 g/t Au over 7.88 metres including 5.19 g/t Au over 1.13 metres in VGD-14-029.

The open pit resource of the Victory gold deposit is expected to grow as mineralization is tracked 1.5 km northeast from the current resource boundary.

Marathon's Valentine Lake project includes the Victory and Leprechaun gold deposits plus several other showings. Drilling has outlined close to 1.0 million oz of gold at the property.

A map of the Valentine Lake project has been posted at Marathon-Gold.com.
