The world’s largest SAG mill has been installed at Yanacocha.

PERU - Finnish processing giant, Metso, designed and supplied the world's largest semi-autogenous grinding mill for Newmont Mining's Yanacocha Conga copper-gold project in Peru. The 12.8 x 7.6 metre SAG mill will the first to exceed 12.2 metres in diameter. The SAG is equipped with an ABB gearless motor to allow operation at variable speeds.

The Conga project is located approximately 900 km north of Lima at an altitude of 4,100 metres above sea level at the Yanacocha gold mine. The project is at the feasibility stage with full funding expected from the Newmont board in the first half of 2011.

Metso will also supply two 7.9 x 12.8 metre ball mills and two VTM-1500-WB Vertimills® for the project.

Yanacocha is a joint venture of Newmont (51%), Compania de Minas Buenaventura (44%) and International Finance Corp. (5%). Visit the website at www.Yanacocha.com.pe.
