MINING PEOPLE: Garth Kirkham, Lundin, and the World Gold Council

Garth Kirkham, principal at Kirkham Geosystems of Burnaby, BC, is the recipient of two national awards this year. He has been named a Distinguished Lecturer by the CIM recognizing his expertise in the art and science of 3-D modelling and mineral resources estimation. In addition, Kirkham was also recognised by the Geological Association of Canada and awarded Distinguished Member status for long standing commitment to the association and the profession of geology.

Lundin Mining Corp. of Toronto welcomes Peter C. Jones to the company's board of directors. He has 40 years' experience in all parts of the world and has served as interim president and CEO of IamGold, president and COO of Inco, and president and CEO of Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting.

Randall Oliphant, the executive chairman of New Gold, is the newly elected chairman of the World Gold Council with head offices in London, UK. He succeeds Ian Telfer of Goldcorp.
