MINING PEOPLE IN THE NEWS: AuRo Resources, Calibre Mining, CEMI, Rockex, and Victory Silica

Vancouver-based AuRo Resources has appointed John Gomez as CEO. He was a founder and president of White Gold Corp. that was acquired by AuRo last year. Former AuRo CEO Mark Lawson will continue to serve as a director of the company.

Vancouver-based AuRo Resources has appointed John Gomez as CEO. He was a founder and president of White Gold Corp. that was acquired by AuRo last year. Former AuRo CEO Mark Lawson will continue to serve as a director of the company.

Calibre Mining of Vancouver has promoted Greg Smith to the roles of president and CEO. He is an exploration geologist with more than 25 years experience. He was formerly the company’s VP exploration.

The new environmental R&D director for the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) in Sudbury, ON, is Leon C. Botham. He will be working with the CEMI team in the areas of environment and sustainability related to mining. He is also VP mining at McElhanney Consulting Services.

Rockex Mining Corp. of Thunder Bay, ON, has named Edward (Ted) Yew as president and CEO. He earned a degree in engineering from the University of Western Ontario and worked at the Cortez mine in Nevada before returning to school and earning a MBA at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Ken Murdock has been tapped to be the first CEO of Victory Silica, a wholly owned subsidiary of Toronto-based Victory Nickel.
