MINING PEOPLE IN THE NEWS: Dumas, Midlands Minerals, Nevsun, and NovaGold

Dumas Contracting of Toronto has hired Burger Greeff as CEO beginning in 2012. He holds degrees in engineering from the University of Stellenbosch. Daniel Dumas, the founder and current CEO of Dumas, will remain on the board of directors.

Toronto-based Midlands Minerals has hired Craig Pearman as its president and CEO, effective Dec. 1, 2011. Most recently he was chief exploration geologist for Kinross Gold at the Chirano mine in Ghana.

The new COO of Vancouver's Nevsun Resources is Frazer Bourchier, holder of degrees in applied science and engineering from the University of Toronto. He will focus on the company's Bisha copper mine in Eritrea and well as on potential acquisition opportunities.

NovaGold of Vancouver has made major changes to its leadership, most notably naming Gregory A. Lang its president and CEO, beginning in January 2012. He was previously the president of Barrick Gold of North America. NovaGold and Barrick share equally in the Donlin gold project in Alaska. NovaGold founder and current president and CEO Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse will step down to assume the same roles at NovaCopper, a newly formed subsidiary. NovaGold also announced that Dr. Thomas S. Kaplan (chair and CEO of Electrum Group) is now the chairman of the board and Gil Leathley (NovaGold senior VP and COO) has become a director.
