Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. of Yellowknife is another company that successfully worked through the winter using ice roads to deliver supplies and equipment to a mine in northern Canada.
With no all-season road access, the company used a seasonal passage to truck 3,859 loads (approximately 127,000 tonnes) of fuel, cement, explosives, heavy equipment, and other supplies to its mine site.
Three operating mines, Diavik Diamond Mines, BHP Billiton Diamonds Inc., and De Beers Canada Inc., and a few other third party users in the area, hauled a total of 6,832 loads northbound on the ice highway.
