The St Marys Cement Inc’s plant and quarry in Bowmanville, ON, has received North America’s first International for Standardization’s (ISO) 50001 certificate for energy management for an industrial facility.
The Bowmanville plant, which operates 24/7 with a rated capacity of over 1.8 million metric tonnes of product, has, according to Jim Storey, the plant’s Electrical Maintenance Manager, reduced its energy consumption since 205 by more than 11 million kilowatt hours (about the same amount of energy used by 1,100 Canadian homes in one year) with more than $3 million in savings.
