ALBERTA The federal and provincial cabinets have given their approvals to the proposed Jackpine oil sands development. The mine is an undertaking of the Alberta Oil Sands Project (AOSP) of SHELL CANADA (60%), WESTERN OIL SANDS (20%) and CHEVRON CANADA (20%). Work on the feasibility study and development is proceeding.
Phase 1 of the Jackpine project includes a mining and extraction facility on the eastern portion of Lease 13 near the existing Muskeg River mine north of Fort McMurray. The new mine would eventually produce 200,000 bbl of bitumen daily. The AOSP partners have not yet committed money or set a start date for development.
