Employees, partners and community members gathered on Friday at Komatsu’s (OTC: KMTUY) Newberry Manufacturing Operation (NMO) in South Carolina to celebrate 25 years of operations.

At the celebration, a special anniversary model of the WA485-11 wheel loader, one of the newest wheel loaders manufactured at the plant, was unveiled.

Rod Bull, Komatsu North America’s CEO, called the milestone significant and a “testament to the dedication, skill and commitment” of its employees.

Opened in 2001, NMO became Komatsu’s fifth major manufacturing facility in North America. The site originally assembled backhoe loaders, but later expanded to include wheel loaders and forklifts.

A quarter of a century on and NMO has expanded from 22 employees in 2001, to more than 250 today. The facility itself has also grown from around 18,500 sq. metres to more than 27800 sq. metres. Komatsu says more than 53,000 machines have been manufactured at NMO since it opened.

“From the facility’s beginnings with a small team producing backhoe loaders to the diverse manufacturing operation it is today; Newberry’s success has been built by the people who come to work each day focused on delivering quality products and continuously improving what we do,” Bull said.
