THUNDER BAY, Ontario - The Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association (NWOPA) held its annual meeting earlier this month, honouring two of its members for exceptional contributions.

The Bernie Schnieders Discovery of the Year Award went to Premier Gold Mines of Thunder Bay for its Hardrock project, operated as a joint venture with Goldstone Resources. Hardrock is host to several past-producers, which had an output of nearly 3 million oz of gold between 1938 and 1968.

Toronto's Rubicon Minerals is the recipient of the Developer of the Year Award for its efforts at the Phoenix project near Red Lake. The company is in the midst of a $60-million advanced exploration program for an underground mine.
