COPPER: First Quantum quantifies 2012 production

VANCOUVER – First Quantum Minerals has announced that its 2012 production was higher for all commodities compared to a year earlier. Copper production was 307,115 tonnes, up 16%. Nickel production was 36,759 tonnes, a 5.5-fold increase. Gold production totaled 201,942 oz, up 15%. Platinum (13,080 oz) and palladium (12,183 oz) were produced for the first time.

The company operates the Guelb Moghrein copper-gold mine in Mauritania, the Kansanshi copper-gold mine in Zambia, the Ravensthorpe nickel mine in Australia, and the new Kevitsa nickel-copper-PGM-gold mine in Finland.

Next year First Quantum expects to produce between 302,000 and 330,000 tonnes of copper, between 40,000 and 50,000 tonnes of nickel, and between 190,000 and 215,000 oz of gold.
