NORTHWEST TERRITORIES – The Diavik diamond mine, a partnership of Rio Tinto (60%) and Toronto-based Dominion Diamond Corp. (40%), has unearthed the largest diamond – 187.7 ct – ever mined in Canada. Rio Tinto showcased what has been named the Diavik Foxfire during an exclusive preview at Kensington Palace in London. The gem will be shown in that city until it is sent to Antwerp. It is likely that at least one large stone can be cut and polished for an exclusive heirloom piece of jewellery. The Diavik Foxfire also has an indigenous name, Noi?eh Kwe [sic] which references the strong ties to the land and its legacy. Click here to see a video of this beautiful diamond.
