Electra Battery Materials (TSXV: ELBM) has appointed Peter Rawlins as its chief financial officer (CFO) and released its Q2 2026 results. The stock rose.

Rawlins joins Electra with more than two decades of experience in mining finance, capital markets and strategic advisory. Most recently, he served as CIBC’s managing director of global mining and forest products. At Electra, Rawlins will succeed David Allen, who returned from retirement earlier this year to serve as interim CFO. Allen will continue with the company on a part-time basis.

Trent Mell, the company’s CEO, said Rawlins “brings the financial leadership and network needed both to support delivery of the cobalt refinery and to help advance and finance our broader project critical minerals pipeline.”

The appointment comes as Electra continues development on its battery-grade nickel refinery in the southeastern U.S., and its Ontario cobalt sulfate refinery north of Toronto.

Rawlins said the company’s vision is what attracted him to the job. “Its cobalt sulfate refinery has the potential to become an important part of North America’s battery and defense supply chains and a platform for further growth initiatives,” he said in a news release. Rawlins added that he is focused on transforming “Electra’s government and industry relationships into long-term value for shareholders.”

Rawlins will assume the position Aug. 26, 2026.

Q2 financial results

Electra also filed its results for Q2 of 2026. The company highlighted the advancement of its Ontario refinery and its $20 million (US$14.37 million) agreement with the Canadian government. Electra reported its awarded construction packages valued at about $46 million.

The company’s shares rose 3.7% to 85¢ (US$0.61) Wednesday afternoon in Toronto, valuing Electra at about $89.72 million (US$64.45 million).

“Our focus remains on disciplined execution — advancing the refinery on schedule and within budget while maintaining the financial flexibility needed to deliver the project,” said Allen.
