ONTARIO - The Detour Lake gold mine is hitting its stride in its first full year of production. Owner Detour Gold of Toronto said the northern Ontario project produced 456,634 oz of gold during 2014. As last year wound down, the mill was averaging more than 54,300 t/d.

President and CEO Paul Martin said that the mine was performing within 1% of design capacity by the middle of the year. "Building upon this momentum is our key priority for 2015. We are optimistic that the initiatives we have underway, including improvements in the mining rate and the potential of processing of fines from our stockpiles, can further enhance our 2015 performance and enable us to achieve the higher end of our production guidance and lower end of our total cash cost guidance," he said.

Detour Gold expects to produce between 475,000 and 525,000 oz of gold this year at all in sustaining costs of $1,050 to $1,150. The daily mining rate will be approximately 222,000 t/d, and the average waste-to-ore ratio is estimated at 3.5:1.

The company said it is also initiating a number of optimization efforts not reflected in the 2015 guidance. These include further reduction of consumables, reliance on contractors, installing a pebble extraction system, and processing the enriched zone of the low grade stockpile.

The Detour Lake mine is located 185 km northeast of Cochrane. Learn more at DetourGold.com
