MEXICO – Vancouver’s Marlin Gold Mining has begun mining the high grade HS zone at the La Trinidad open pit and heap leach gold project in Sinaloa state. The addition of cheaper heap leaching to existing open pit production from the Taunus deposit is expected to significantly reduce costs per ounce. Marlin’s exploration program at La Trinidad has returned promising intersections, the most notable of which was 7.5 metres grading 9.73 g/t Au. That assay came from core only about 50 metres below surface. The preliminary economic assessment listed 4.33 million indicated tonnes with 1.79 g/t Au or 248,610 contained oz plus 1.93 million inferred tonnes with 0.84 g/t Au or 52,245 contained oz.
