QUEBEC - Alexis Minerals of Toronto has completed refurbishing its Aurbel gold mill near Val d'Or. The plant will treat ore from the nearby Lac Herbin mine, at a cost saving of 10% compared to having the ore custom milled elsewhere.
The Aurbel mill, located approximately 1 km east of the Lac Herbin mine, was originally purchased from Aur Resources in 2006 and has been on care and maintenance. Its 1,400-t/d capacity was originally used to treat ore from the Ferderber gold mine, atop which the Aurbel mill sits, and the nearby Dumont gold mine. Both the Ferderber and Dumont mines were closed in the mid-1990s, along with the mill. Both mines are currently owned by Alexis. The crushing of low-grade ore started Feb. 25, 2010 with mill commissioning expected to continue into the week of March 1, 2010.
The Aurbel mill is one of two gold mills owned by Alexis, the other being the 2,150-t/d New Britannia mill in Snow Lake, MB, that was acquired in the recent acquisition of Garson Gold.
