ONTARIO – Wesdome Gold Mines of Toronto is making plans to mine higher grades from the Eagle River underground mine and boost the mining rate at the Mishi pit near Wawa. By 2019 the operations may have an annual output of as much as 80,000 oz. The Eagle River mill will be expanded incrementally to 1,500 t/d.

The mining rate at Mishi is to be doubled, bringing low cost gold output from this source to 20,000 oz per year. Wesdome says it expects that change to increase overall margins by more than $100 an ounce. Operating costs per ounce are now between $1,070 and $1,190 per oz. That number should drop to between $795 and $880 per oz.

A new tailings management facility with a capacity of at least 10 years will also be built. It will be commissioned by the end of 2016, and its capacity will be increased to match mill throughput until it reaches 1,500 t/d.
