Everyone feels a little thrill as the price of gold reaches the US$1,000-an-ounce mark. But will it stay there?

Last week: Rumours have been circulating that BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto will merge their diamond operations in Canada, the Ekati and Diavik mines, respectively. We asked our readers if they thought this could happen, and their answer was "yes". Or at least three out of five readers think so.
