HOT TOPIC: Where is the copper price going?

Quadra and FNX are betting the price of copper will has good growth potential and are shaping their combined company as a copper producer.

So the question today is: Will the price of copper outperform the price of nickel? The copper price has not gained much so far this year, it was actually down 0.1% through Wed., March 24. Meanwhile the price of nickel rose 127% to this point in 2010.

Last week: CMJ asked our readers whether they think the current hoopla surrounding exploration for rare earth elements (REE) will result in minable projects. They were about evenly divided on the currently promoted projects will become mines eventually (42%) and whether we need REE production right now (46%). Only about 11.5% thought that only junior stock promoters will make any money from the current activity.
