MINING PEOPLE IN THE NEWS: Apogee, Aura Minerals, Linear Gold, San Marco Resources and Sutter Gold

Apogee Minerals of Toronto has named Chris Collins president of the company. He had a lengthy career with Noranda, and was most recently VP exploration with Gold Eagle Mines until its recent takeover by Goldcorp.

John Ivany has been appointed to the board of Aura Minerals in Vancouver. He held the position of executive VP at Kinross Gold from 1995 to 2006.

Halifax-headquartered Linear Gold Corp. has a new COO, Mike Sylvestre, a 30+ year employee of Inco and Vale Inco. A mining engineer, he holds an MSc from McGill University and a BSc from Queen's University, and he has studied at the Richard Ivey School of Business at MIT Sloan School of Management. Sylvestre's global experience includes Indonesia, New Caledonia as well as Ontario and Manitoba.

Stuart (Tookie) Angus has become a director of Vancouver-based San Marco Resources. He is also chair of Nevsun Resources and Tirex Resources and a founding director of Plutonic Power Corp. As well he is a director of a number of other resource companies.

Sutter Gold of Vancouver has named David A. Cochrane its new VP environmental, health and safety. He joins the company from Golder Associates where he has worked as a consultant since 2003 and as the operations manager for northern California since 2005.
