NICKEL PROCESS: Pilot plant to test Nichromet technology

QUEBEC NICHROMET EXTRACTION of Montreal has built a pilot plant to test its proprietary leaching technology on ore samples supplied from a laterite deposit in the Philippines. Twenty tonnes of material to be tested comes from a project belonging to MBMI RESOURCES of Vancouver.

Nichromet and MBMI have signed a memorandum of understanding for a joint venture whereby Nichromet will build a full-scale production plant in Canada and the mining company will supply high-grade nickel raw material. MBMI will also be granted an exclusive licence to use the Nichromet process in the Philippines. MBMI intends to build facilities capable of producing intermediate through finished nickel-cobalt-chrome-iron products for the Asian and North American markets.
