BRITISH COLUMBIA - The BC Museum of Mining at Britannia Beach has received a total of $3.72 million from industry leaders Ross Beaty and Lukas Lundin. This includes personal donations from Beaty of $2 million and Lundin of $1 million and a corporate donation of $722,000 from Red Back Mining, where Lukas serves as chairman.

The gift will support a new Beaty-Lundin Visitor Centre, one of the first transformation sites visitors will experience when they visit the newly restored museum in the late summer. The centre will house several theatrical mining and mineral exhibits, a new theatre space, a gift shop and the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.

The funds will also go towards the museum's three-phase redevelopment project, known as the "Britannia Project," focused on preserving its heritage buildings and mining collections, creating an enhanced visitor experience and transforming the historic mining site into a vibrant internationally recognized destination.

The Britannia Project, due for completion in late summer, will offer an exciting new venue for local arts and culture as well as provide visitors with a memorable experience, celebrating ideas and practices of renewal and sustainability. The new site will feature restored heritage buildings, historic research and preservation, education exhibits and services, arts and culture initiatives, fun family entertainment and engagement about mining.

The museum's attractions include 15 historic buildings and an underground mining tunnel as well as the recently completed $5 million rehabilitation of the 20-storey mill building, a National Historic Site and one of the last gravity-fed concentrators in North America.

The BC Museum of Mining is open for tours and visits during the renovations. For information on opening hours and the history of the museum, visit www.BCMM.ca.
