OTTAWA – The North-South Institute has released its latest flagship publication, the Canadian International Development Report, and it highlights opportunity and challenge on the African continent. The report contains policy briefs by leading experts that offer insight to assist decision makers in Canada's extractive industries.

The Institute says each contribution approaches the subject of resource development in Africa from a different angle. The issue of financing is a prominent theme that runs through the essays. The rise of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) countries, particularly China, is assessed as they relate to potential new means of foreign investment. The report also acknowledges the changes taking place from within on the continent, including the post-2009 shift towards African agency.
