MEXICO — Vancouver-based Goldcorp has entered the ranks of base metal producers with the production of the first lead and zinc concentrates from its Penasquito mine in Zacatecas State. About 450 tonnes of lead concentrate and 50 tonnes of zinc concentrates have been stockpiled during commissioning. The company expects to made the first shipments to smelters before the end of this year.

 

Besides lead and zinc, the mine will produce an estimated 500,000 oz of gold and 30.0 million oz of silver during its 22-year life.
