Richard Ross has been appointed a director of Inmet Mining Corp. and the president and CEO of the company, succeeding William James, who will assume the role of chairman of the board. The current chairman, James M. Tory, remains a director of the corporation. Ross, 42, is a chartered accountant and has held positions of increasing responsibility during his 11-year career with Inmet, spending the last four years as CFO. He will be succeeded in that position by Scott Oen, currently vice-president and treasurer of Inmet.

Gorden Glenn (P.Geol.) has been appointed as president, CEO and to the Board of Directors of Foran Mining Corp. He will be located in Toronto. Most recently Glenn was a mining analyst with Griffiths McBurney & Partners. Previously he held senior exploration positions with Kennecott Canada Ltd. and Inmet Mining Corp. Foran is developing the McIlvenna Bay zinc-copper deposit near Flin Flon, Sask.

The president and COO of Wheaton River Minerals Ltd., J. John Kalmet, has been awarded the E.A. Scholz Award from the British Columbia and Yukon Chamber of Mines, an annual award that honours excellence in mine development. Kalmet was chosen for his leadership role in the development of the Golden Bear heap leach gold mine in northwest BC, owned and operated by North American Metals Corp., an 89%-owned subsidiary of Wheaton River. Kalmet was instrumental in reopening the mine as a heap leach operation in 1997. Golden Bear was the first, and remains the only heap leach mine in the province.

Jack F. McOuat has joined the board of directors of Nevada Pacific Gold Ltd. McOuat is a founding partner in, and currently serves as chairman and director of Watts, Griffis and McOuat Ltd., one of the foremost engineering and geological consulting firms in the world.

Denison Mines Ltd. has appointed Patrick W.E. Hodgson to its Board of Directors. Hodgson is a businessman who is currently a director of a number of industrial and financial services companies. He is currently chairman of Todd Shipyards in Seattle, Wash.

Michael Larson has been added to the Board of Directors of Pan American Silver Corp. Larson is the investment advisor to William H. Gates, III (The Bill Gates), whose investment entity (Cascade Investment LLC) recently acquired a 10.3% interest in Pan American. Larson takes the seat vacated by Michael Maloney, who will remain an advisor to the Board. Pan American is a silver mining company. It is developing La Colorada silver mine in Mexico and the Dukat silver mine in Russia.

Dr. Michael Wheeler is the recipient of the first annual Marlan Boultinghouse Service Award presented by the Aluminum Association. Wheeler is the director of research in aluminum and automotive for Alcan Aluminum Ltd. He has been a strong technical advocate for the use of aluminum in the automotive industry.
