BRITISH COLUMBIA – Anglo American announced on Sept. 11 from Vancouver that it is putting its Peace River metallurgical coal operation on care and maintenance. Operations at the Trend mine will cease at the end of 2014.

The company blames weakening metallurgical coal prices.

Anglo says it remains committed to Peace River over the long term with the development of the new Roman mine. Preparation works at Roman will be completed prior to the care and maintenance at Trend.

The Trend mine produced 1.4 million tonnes of coal in 2012.
