EDMONTON - Suncor Energy has won a 2010 ASTech Award for its TROTM tailings management process. The new process, that received regulatory approval five months ago, is expected to shorten the time needed to reclaim oil sands tailings (See CMJ Daily Headline News for June 17, 2010).
The award was bestowed by the Alberta Science and Technology Leadership Foundation for outstanding achievement in environmental technology and innovation. Suncor's tailings reduction operations team was in Edmonton to receive the award on Nov. 12.
The ASTech Awards are given annually to celebrate and raise public awareness of the world class work being done by Albertans in science and technology. The judging is done by an independent panel that includes members from industry, academia and research.
