NOVA SCOTIA – It seems no sooner was the first gold poured than owner Ressources Appalaches placed its Dufferin gold mine on temporary care and maintenance. The mine, near Port Dufferin, poured its first gold on July 10, 2014, and on Oct. 3, the company ceased production due to delayed underground development and delays in reaching commercial production.
The project has been plagued by a lengthy underground transformer installation, mobile equipment breakdowns, and a breakdown of the cone crusher.
From June to September this year during ramp-up, the mill treated 17,000 tonnes of ore and the company sold 675 oz of gold from the gravity circuit. It was not enough to make the project economic.
Appalaches says that mill is still treating stockpiled material and that filtration and bagging of the gold concentrate is in process.
