NEWFOUNDLAND – Benton Resources of Thunder Bay, ON, has made what it calls a “significant” new visible gold discovery at the Staghorn gold property 60 km southeast of Stephenville. The property is owned by Metals Creek Resources of Gander, and Benton is earning a 70% interest.

Prospecting earlier this summer found an outcrop that graded 19 to 20 g/t Au. Follow up work since then collected grab samples that assayed as high as 189.2 g/t Au. Exploration at Staghorn has traced a shear zone intermittently over more than 2.0 km. Metals Creek believes the property is situated within and east-west splay off the main cape Ray fault.

The Cape Ray/Victoria Lake regional fault zone hosts a number of gold deposits, including Marathon Gold's Valentine Lake deposit located 30 km to the northeast of Staghorn and Benton's Cape Ray gold deposits approximately 100 km to the southwest.

A fact sheet on the Staghorn gold project is posted at MetalsCreek.com
