ONTARIO - Detour Gold Corp. of Toronto has begun infrastructure construction at its Detour Lake gold project 150 km northeast of Cochrane. The company has received both the construction permit and power line permit from the province. Work has already begun on the 1,000-person construction camp, and it is to be completed by the end of April 2011.

Detour Lake Constructors has begun clearing the right-of-way for the 135-km segment of the power line from Island Falls to the mine site. That segment will be completed in the fall of 2011. Three of the five 1.2-MW units for the temporary power station have already been installed. Site excavation is underway in preparation for the first concrete pour in Q1 2011. Steel will be erected for the next six months, and finally in Q4 the process plant building will be enclosed.

Detour Gold has committed over $500 million towards the $1.1-billion project. In the last month, it ordered two Terex O&K RH340 excavators (one diesel, one electric) and awarded contracts for the earthworks, concrete batch plant, 50,000 m3 of concrete works and 6,000 tonnes of steel.

Detour Lake Constructors is a partnership of Peter Kiewit Infrastructure, Moose Cree Constructors (Moose Creek first Nation, New Post Constructors (Taykwa Tagamou Nation) and Wahgoshig First Nation.

A new reserve and resource update for the Detour Lake project will be released early this year. It will be posted on www.DetourGold.com when it is available.
