Yara Pilbara Fertilisers and InCapture, an Australia-based carbon storage project developer, want to work together to explore the development of large-scale offshore carbon storage infrastructure to support industrial emissions reduction across Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The companies have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) to assess the technical, regulatory and commercial pathways toward offering a carbon capture and storage (CCS) hub for companies like Yara.
“Pilbara is one of Australia’s most important industrial regions,” said Julia Davis, InCapture’s managing director. “Maintaining its long-term competitiveness will require practical and scalable solutions that enable industry to reduce emissions while continuing to invest, manufacture and export from the region.”
The collaboration combines Yara’s ammonia production facilities on the Burrup peninsula and InCapture’s permitted G-15-AP CCS project off-shore of the Pilbara region.
“Working with major industrial participants such as Yara is an important step towards ensuring the project develops in response to real industry requirements and towards establishing a shared carbon storage hub for the Pilbara,” Davis added.
