MINING PEOPLE IN THE NEWS: Alexis, Anvil Mining, Barrick and Vale SA

Toronto's Alexis Minerals has named Sylvain Lehoux to the position of VP Quebec operations. He is a former manager of the Kiena gold mine in Val d'Or, QC.

Toronto's Alexis Minerals has named Sylvain Lehoux to the position of VP Quebec operations. He is a former manager of the Kiena gold mine in Val d'Or, QC.

The new president and CEO of Anvil Mining in Montreal is Darryll Castle. He will join Anvil on May 1, 2011 after leaving his current post as COO of Metorex.

Barrick Gold of Toronto has named Richard McCreary to the role of senior VP corporate development. He had been head of CIBC World Markets' global mining investment banking group. McCreary holds an MBA in finance and strategy from McGill University and an MSc in geological engineering from Queen's University.

Vale SA has named 58-year-old Murilo Pinto de Oliveira Ferreira to succeed Roger Agnelli as the company's CEO, effective May 22, 2011. Since 2008 Ferreira has been CEO of Vale Inco (now Vale Canada) and executive director of nickel and base metals sales for Vale.
